Overview
Eclipse Music ("Eclipse", "we") is a music player for your Apple Music library with the ability to connect your own personal media servers. This policy explains what information we collect when you use the Eclipse apps and the eclipsemusic.app website, and what we do with it.
The short version: we collect the minimum needed to run your account and keep your library in sync across devices. We don't sell your data, we don't show ads, and we don't use third-party advertising trackers.
What we collect
- Account information. Your email address and display name, and a securely hashed password. If you sign in with Google or Discord, we receive your basic profile (email and name) from that provider instead.
- Your library. Playlists, favorites, saved albums and artists, listening history, and app settings - stored so your library stays in sync across your devices.
- Connected server credentials. If you connect a personal media server, the credentials you enter are stored encrypted and used solely to connect to that server on your behalf. Your media streams between the app and your own server.
What we don't do
- We do not sell or rent your personal information to anyone.
- We do not show advertising or embed third-party advertising or tracking SDKs in the apps.
- We do not read or store the contents of your personal media servers beyond what is needed to play what you ask for.
How we use your information
Your data is used to operate the service: signing you in, syncing your library and settings between your devices, and keeping the service secure. Listening history powers your own stats and recommendations inside the app - it is never shared outside your account.
Listening together
Eclipse includes social listening features. When you start or join a shared session, your display name and current playback (track title, artist, artwork, position) are visible to the other participants of that session for its duration. Playback on your own devices is likewise visible to your other signed-in devices. Nothing about a session is public.
Third-party services
- Apple Music - catalog browsing and metadata requests are made to Apple's services. Apple's own privacy policy applies to those requests.
- Google / Discord - only if you choose to sign in with them.
- Last.fm - only if you connect a Last.fm account for scrobbling; we then send the track title, artist, and album of what you play to Last.fm.
- Your own servers - media you play from a connected personal server streams between your device and that server.
Storage and security
All traffic between the apps, the website, and our servers is encrypted with HTTPS. Passwords are stored hashed (bcrypt), and connected-server credentials are encrypted at rest (AES-256-GCM). Our infrastructure is access-controlled and limited to what is needed to operate the service.
Retention and deletion
We keep your data for as long as your account exists. If you delete your account, or ask us to, your account information, library data, listening history, and stored credentials are removed from our systems. Server logs expire automatically on a short rolling window.
Children
Eclipse is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we'll update this page.
